By law, every county in the state is to
have a law library. Act
142 of 1976 states: County law libraries, including libraries
maintained by bar associations or independent library corporations, or
both, shall receive from the county such necessary funds, accommodations,
goods and services, as shall be specified by general rules or orders adopted
by the governing authority after consideration of the recommendations from
time to time of the State Law Library... All such county law libraries shall be
operated in conformity with general rules or rules of the court of common
pleas of the judicial district embracing the county and shall be open to
the general public.

| The Fayette County Law Library is opened
Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 12 Noon and from 1 PM to 4:30 PM. It
is closed for all national holidays. It is located on the second floor
of the Fayette County Courthouse in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. |

The librarians are Elida Micklo and Bonnie
Petros. Mrs. Petros is the Assistant Law Librarian. She graduated from
West Virginia Career College in Morgantown, West Virginia, with an Associate
Degree as a Legal Assistant. She also attended California University of
Pennsylvania for two years. Elida Micklo is retired from the Connellsville
School District with over 33 years as a secondary school librarian. She
took paralegal classes after retirement and has served since 1992 as librarian.

| The law library contains only law books.
This means that the library has all state and federal laws and/or regulations.
It also has state and federal reporters which have important court cases.
None of the books can be taken from the library, but copies of pages can
be made. Cost of copies is $ .25 per page. Fax service is also available
at the following cost - $ 1.00 per page for 1 thru 5 pages, and $ .25 per
page thereafter. Fees are adjusted to cover long distance rates when necessary. |

since they are not attorneys. However, the librarians can assist you in
finding the information you need.
